Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread white, brioche, or your favorite
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter or oil for cooking
  • Optional toppings: powdered sugar maple syrup, fresh berries

Equipment

  • Skillet or nonstick pan
  • Shallow bowl
  • Whisk
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut each slice of bread into a heart shape.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
  4. Dip each heart-shaped bread slice in the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  5. Cook 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with powdered sugar, syrup, and fresh berries.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread—it soaks up the egg mixture better.
Try brioche or challah for an extra rich and fluffy texture.
For a festive touch, dust with cocoa powder or add a dollop of whipped cream.
Great for breakfast-in-bed surprises or special occasions.
