Ingredients
  

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup red & green M&M’s
  • ½ cup crushed pretzels
  • ½ cup chopped nuts pecans or walnuts
  • Optional add-ins: white chocolate chips toffee bits, dried cranberries

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in chocolate chips, M&M’s, pretzels, nuts, and any additional mix-ins.
  7. Scoop dough into 2-tablespoon balls and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 11–13 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and centers look slightly underbaked.
  9. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Don’t overload with mix-ins—about 2½ cups total is ideal.
For extra festive cookies, press a few candies on top before baking.
Dough can be chilled for 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
