  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk whole or 2%
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard optional, for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 cups cubed bread French bread or sandwich bread
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 green onions sliced (optional, garnish)

Method
 

  1. Cook Sausage – In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned and crumbled. Drain excess grease.
  2. Prepare Baking Dish – Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread cubed bread evenly in the bottom.
  3. Layer Ingredients – Sprinkle cooked sausage over the bread, then add shredded cheese.
  4. Mix Egg Custard – In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, mustard (if using), salt, and pepper. Pour evenly over the casserole.
  5. Bake – Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes, or until eggs are set and the top is lightly golden.
  6. Serve – Let cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with green onions before serving.

Notes

Make ahead: Assemble the casserole, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Bake fresh in the morning.
